Week 8: Desert Botanical Garden

Today I went to the Desert Botanical Garden with my family.  There are so many beautiful opportunites for great photography there.

Cactus flower. I love the soft yellow color of it, and how dramatic the contrast is between the soft flower and the prickles of the cactus spines.

Desert chipmonk?? He was resting in the shade and let me get close enough to take decent pictures of him.  The shade does make it a little hard to notice him though.

Zebra butterfly from the butterfly exhibit. Beautiful.

Week Seven: Kids

Recently, I took some pictures of my niece and nephew, Jaymee and Jakub.  They are adorable, and when they are okay with a camera being pointed at them, I think they are very photogenic and cute to look at.

I like this photo because of how everything look colorwise.  Her shirt goes with the green tree and green grass.  However, she was biking faster than I expected, so I didn't do a good job at making it rule of thirds or anything like that. Nontheless, a cute photo.

My cat. He provides amusement for me and he's adorable, so he is often the subject of my fun photos.

Nap time!

Jakub, for once sitting still.

Diversity

I enjoyed finding diversity by the means of color.  I found objects that were the same but that showed diversity by being in all different colors.

Easter Eggs

Markers

And nail polish [:

Color

For my color shoot, I decided to do the color blue.  I had baked some cupcakes and tried my hand at decorating them (it was my first time). I used a blue frosting to decorate so I could use them for my blue photo shoot.
For the second photo, I found some blue flowers in my garden and decided to photograph them.  I love the way that the depth of field is obvious with the first flower being clear and the ones behind it being blurry.

Week Six: Volleyball

Earlier this week, I went to the boys varsity volleyball game.  I did this for student life, but decided to display some of the pictures I'm not turning in for that for my blog.  Although I hate gym pictures because the lighting makes everything look bad in my opinion, these ones turned out alright.

Week Five: Prom!

So I'm a little late with my post but I wanted to post a few prom picture for my blog post this week!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first picture of Chris's flower that I got him.  I love the contrast of the flower to his tux.  The second picture was just a fun one that I took of Chris, and although he is kind of dark in it, I actually liked the way it turned out with the shadows on his face.  The third picture is my cat, Binx.  He was hanging out with us when we were taking prom pictures, and he's too cute to not take pictures of :)

Week Four: Horses

So this is my horse, Sundance. For once, he was cooperating and letting me photograph him without him moving a ton! So I decided to take a rather rustic, western approach to my blog post his week.  I took an old horseshoe and layed it on an old piece of wood to give it an old, antique look. And for the last picture, I placed two horseshoes on Sundance's fence.  He was investigating them (: I liked the way that the shadows from the tree above him made playful patterns across his body.

These photos don't really have a deeper meaning to me.  They were simply fun to take and allow me to show cute photos of my horse.

Week Three: Vases and Such

I have to admit, I was inspired from the vases we photographed in class over the last week.  In the second picture, it is of a vase that I made in ceramics last year - the third, a vase I painted. Although I don't have a lighting kit at home, I used several lights to try to light the vases right.  While they didn't turn out quite as well as I would have liked, it was a learning experience :) And the first picture, the butterfly, is just for fun and because it's pretty.

Week Two - Fire and Water

My inspiration was a comparison again, but this week, of fire and water.
The first photo is of a candle I got in Sedona.  The candle has a cutout from the outer wax, so when it is lit, the flower cutout shows pretty colors.  I turned off all the lights in my house and simply let the flame be the lighting in my photo.
The second is the opposite of fire - water.  This is at Desert Breeze park.  Some ducks were swimming around and enjoying the water, and it provided a good contrast to my fire photo.

Week One - Life and Death

Inspiration can strike in so many ways.  While noticing that my rose was dying, I had the thought to photograph spring flowers - the beginning of a new life.  The short lives of flowers and plants should make us realize how lucky we are to have so long to live.  Everything has its own life and death story.
